Located off the Bay of Bengal is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The state executive and legislative headquarters are located here. Some people call it the “Detroit of India” due to its ties with the automobile industry or it’s also called the “Gateway to South India.” Chennai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world even though it ranks poorly on its ranking for cleanliness.

Chennai is known for its thriving culture. Art, music and dance flourish here. From classical to western you’ll find a wide range of music when experiencing the nightlife. Salsa and traditional Bharatanatyam dance are popular here and classes are taught all over the city. The architecture of the city ranges from ancient temples to huge high-rises. There are exceptional five-star restaurants in Chennai but street vendors have amazing menus as well, mostly offering South Indian food.

Marina beach is a popular place to cool off. Between the beach and road is a promenade lined with statues. There are also fast-food restaurants. Another beach is Elliot’s Beach and it’s known for having a clean atmosphere and some shrines. You’ll find restaurants here too and also the Church of Our Lady of Heath, which welcomes people of all faiths.
