Nessebar is a small town located in an hour’s drive south from Varna. The old part of the town is located on a very beautiful and small peninsula, which makes it very similar to the Old Dubrovnik in Croatia. And whether you’re visiting Nessebar on a cruise ship or on a tour from Varna, this place will certainly amaze you with its concentration of historical buildings that date back to different periods of its history. 

Nessebar was known back from the times of Ancient Greece, when the first colony was established on the peninsula. Later, during the times of the Roman Empire and its descendant, the Byzantium, Nessebar became an important cultural and trade hub on the Black Sea coast of the Balkans. It was also a very important religious centre during the Middle Ages, and once there were 41 churches on this small patch of land. Today Nessebar is known for its small traditional houses that were primarily built during the 19th century, but you can easily see parts and entire buildings from older periods standing here and there. 

However, history is not the only attraction to be found in this small town. There are many souvenir shops to explore as well as several restaurants featuring traditional Bulgarian foods and drinks.
