Information about Kochi

Located on the south west coast of the Indian Peninsula and the financial capital of Kerala, is Kochi. This seaside, cosmopolitan city is a major tourist destination in India. This tropical paradise with waving palms and huge sandy beaches make this place a desirable vacation spot. Kochi is the home of the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy and the headquarters of the Indian Coast Guard. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies and Kerala’s National Law School are also located there.

National Geographic Traveler’s ’50 greatest places of a lifetime’ featured Kochi as one of the top three tourist destinations. This is a land of diverse religions and you will find mosques, Hindu temples, churches and synagogues. From the mountains to the backwaters and everywhere in between is pure paradise.

Jew Town, located in the port area, is a popular place for purchasing some of the best spices in the world. Ginger, cloves, turmeric and cardamom and others can all be purchased from street vendors. Visit Hill Palace Museum, the largest archaeological palace in South India. Here you will see paintings and epigraphy from the collections of Travancore and Kochi royal families. The Santacruz Basilica is free to visit, it’s the first European Church built in Asia.
