In the southeastern section of Lithuania lies its largest city and its capital, Vilnius, location of the Presidential Palace. Today it is a contemporary European city and it is a city of extremes, both in terms of climate and of culture. These diversities are exemplified hot summers and frigid winters; and by a famous nightlife alongside a historical ambience.
Summers in the city of Vilnius are often times quite hot, promoting the popular outdoor bars and restaurants during the day and the swinging nightclubs in the evenings. During the winter the lakes around the city are permanently frozen and perfect for ice-fishing.
Its most famous modern structures are probably the Europa Tower and the Swedbank Headquarters, but its historic Old Town has the breathtaking Vilnius Cathedral and Saint Anne’s Church. There are several important monuments in Vilnius, including the Three Crosses in Kalnai Park, and the Memorial to Victims of Mass Deportation at the Naujoji Train Station.
