Information about Siauliai
The historical city of Siauliai was founded in 1236 after the Battle of Saule. This busy region is the unofficial capital of Northern Lithuania and is also its fourth largest city. It’s also a major travel intersection and trade route through Lithuania, with several major highways, the Liepaja-Romny Railway and the Siauliai International Airport serving the area.
Siauliai is surrounded by lakes and rivers and has 16 parks for recreation. Sailing is a popular activity during the mild summer months, with frigid winters offering sports such as ice skating, sledding, and snowshoeing. Hiking trails range throughout the many parks, and the picturesque scenery makes driving an enjoyable event.
A point of interest is the Siauliai Hill of Crosses, an inspirational monument to the strength of the Lithuanian spirit. Visitors are also intrigued by the Aiauliai Ausros Museum and the Rundale Palace Museum.
