The capital of Mexico and the largest city by population in North America is Mexico City. The city is built on the dry bed of Lake Texcoco and surrounded by mountains and volcanoes; Ajusco, Popocatepetl and Lxtaccihuatl. In the greater metropolitan area there are over 20 million inhabitants so you can expect to find lot’s of people in Mexico City from all different races, cultures and backgrounds.

Visit the Plaza de la Constitucion or Zocalo in downtown Mexico City to see one of the biggest squares in the world complete with historic buildings, a city hall and a cathedral. The Angel de la Independencia or ‘El Angel’ is a monument that celebrates Mexico’s independence in 1810. The Basilica de Guadalupe is the holiest place in the America’s and a destination for pilgrims from all over the world.

At the Chapultepec Park and Zoo you can visit museums such as the Modern Art Museum, the Museum of Anthropology and the Technology Museum, the Children’s Museum, the Technology Museum and many others. The Xochimilco is a system of waterways and flower gardens from the Aztec times. It was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1987. Mexico City has much to offer!
