There are many pages in the Dutch history, both glorious and sad. One of the saddest stories of the country’s immediate history is Operation Market Garden, in September 1944. It was one of the most massive air operations of that war, which unfortunately lead to catastrophic losses and didn’t accomplish the goals of the Allies to enter Germany from the Netherlands.

Even today there are many landmarks that remind of those cruel events that affected the towns of Arnhem and Oosterbeek.

We visit the locations that played a crucial role in the operation. Some of the landmarks in these two towns include the War Cemetery, the Airborne Museum, several war monuments, the war information center, the John Frost Bridge, the landing zones, the old church from where the troups withdrew on the last night, the Westerbouwing height with the history of the Polish brigade.
 
As we walk and drive along these locations I will tell you a more detailed version of the story that is considered one of the darkest pages of Dutch history during the 20th century. Besides, there are several other attractions in the area not associated with the World War II that can be visited if we’ll have time.
