Les - Private Guide in Shetland
Qualified Green Badge guide with Scottish Tourist Guide Association
Languages: English
Born in Shetland, I have lived most of my life in these wild and beautiful islands. My wife and I now live in Unst, the most northerly island.
I love showing visitors around these isles, telling them of their long, varied history, their culture, customs, myths and legends - and showing sandy beaches and soaring cliffs.
First becoming a tour guide in 1993, I am a founder-member of the Shetland Islands Tourist Guide Association. I recently became a fully-qualified Green Badge tour guide and a member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association.
I am a director of the Unst Partnership - a group working to provide employment opportunities in Unst.
I also do stand-up comedy, having appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe for several years. I am a member of a locally based improvised comedy group in Shetland.
I have also worked as an extra on the "Shetland" TV detective series for the BBC.
Having enjoyed years of teaching History & ICT, I now want to let people see what is so unique, interesting and fascinating about my island home.
