This private tour is focused on the Jewish heritage in Belgrade. You probably know that before WWII there were more than 12000 Jews living in Belgrade. Besides Belgrade you could find numerous communities, schools and synagogues in lots of other Serbian towns, especially in the region of Vojvodina. Most of the Jews were Sephardim, which means that their ancestors came from Spain approximately in the 16th century.
For centuries they lived in Serbia and their community flourished until their existence was cruelly interrupted. It was the terrible 1941, when the former kingdom of Yugoslavia was occupied by the German Nazis. Unfortunately Serbia was considered to be the first “Judenrein” territory by the Nazis and due to that fact considerable part of population was exterminated during those terrible times of WWII. Those Jews who have managed to survive the terror and atrocities of the Nazis moved to the USA or Israel. Most of their synagogues in Serbia were completely destroyed, abandoned or turned into other buildings. There are only several places in Nis, Belgrade and Vojvodina region which retain their Jewish origin.
Our private guides in Serbia will show you the remaining places, which are directly linked to the history and culture of the Jews in Serbia. We will definitely visit the famous Belgrade Synagogue, the Jewish cemetery, the Jewish museum of history, stunning Belgrade fortress, and the former Jewish quarter – the Dorcol neighborhood. With the help of our best private guides in Serbia you will also explore the highlights of the heart of Serbia – its capital Belgrade. It is worth noting that transportation service is included, so you won’t have to worry about how to get from one place to another.
By means of our comfortable air-conditioned cars you will be able to save your precious time, and visit some more places of interest in Belgrade, or any other town in Serbia.
