Some people tend to believe that Barcelona is primarily a brick and wall city. However, if you look a bit closer you’ll notice the abundance of trees spread among the numerous buildings. In fact, there are almost 400,000 of them, which makes every four of the city dwellers share one tree among them. There’s a “big lung” of the city located on the Collserola Mountain, which is the biggest park, a ‘small lung” found on the Montjuic Mountain.

These two areas provide the best nature-oriented experience in Barcelona, if you feel like walking in the woods without having to travel to far away. There’s also a historical place called Ciudadela Park that sits besides the old part of the city and at the same time located near the sea. Newer parks were also created before the Olympic Games in 1992, primarily spread along the coastline. In general, Barcelona doesn’t offer any large park areas, instead providing a lot of smaller parks spread around the city. And don’t forget that there are dozens of cozy courtyards, which offer a great shade during a hot summer day in Barcelona.
