Information about Phuket
Phuket is one of the southern provinces of Thailand and has a tropical monsoon climate. Due to its closeness to the equator there is little variation in temperatures throughout the year. An interesting and educational site is Thalang National Museum located nearby the Two Heroines Monument.
The museum contains a display of life in old Phuket, ancient relics, remains revealed on the coast, and supplies used during war with Burma. The Big Buddha of Phuket (Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol Akenakiri or Ming Mongkol Buddha) is on the top of a mountain near Muang Phuket. The image is 45 m high and sheltered in white Burmese marble. Two of the butterfly gardens in Thailand that still exist are Phuket Butterfly Garden and Insect World. Phuket Travel Fair, beginning November 1, is commonly referred to as Patong Carnival, where celebrations happen. Colorful parades, sports events, and a beauty competition for foreign tourists are major activities. For fun in the sun beach-goers are drawn to this region. Hat Patong is Phuket's most developed beach and is 1.9 miles long and features water sports. Patong provides hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and numerous tourist attractions. Kamala Beach, Hat Kamala is a huge beach around 10 miles north of Patong Beach.
The beach features coral reefs on its north side and popular for surfers in the low season. There is a market on Wednesday and Friday nights, and a weekly Saturday market for visitors to purchase goods. When searching for a spectacular vacation destination, this is it.
