Information about Montevideo

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and most people think it is the best destination for tourists looking for a nice vacation. You will be thrilled at the sight of the city’s colonial era buildings and beautiful clean beaches. There is an old town in Montevideo – Ciudad Vieja. At the entrance to the old city you will see the only remaining section of the wall that many years ago surrounded the entire city – the Ciudadela Gateway.

The oldest neighbourhood of Montevideo represents great interest to history devotees. Ordinary tourists would also enjoy strolling along old, maze-like streets that abound in small and cozy cafes and shops. There are lots of museums, churches and theatres there. At night the city doesn’t sleep: at most of the nightclubs you will hear musicians play Candomble and Tango for crowds of dancers.

Take note of the Big Bay of Montevideo – it is one of the city’s oldest places. Opposite the port you will find the Port Market, where almost every day musicians play bandoneones and candombe drums and guitars. Once the Old City was a residential area, but nowadays it has become the financial center of Uruguay. The architecture of Montevideo is very beautiful – each and every building deserves hours of contemplation.
