Hey Hector,
I'm not sure if you remember me, but my friend Brandon and I took many of your tours about three years ago. We had an amazing time and I can't think you enough for everything that you did. You not only showed us around Santiago and Valparaiso, but you probably saved me from going to Chilean jail. I was the guy that got way to drunk and ended up naked in the streets in Santiago, and you ended up making up a story about how I was your crazy American cousin.
The reason I'm messaging you is because I have a 3-month internship in Santiago, starting in January. I'm not sure if the internship program will provide me with housing, but I remember the apartments we stayed at in Santiago were very nice. Do you still rent apartments?
Also, I'd love to meet up with you and take a few tours again!
Hope to see you in January,
Tyler

What is there to do in Santiago? I know it is a pretty big city and I want to be able to eat Chilean food, enjoy the culture and the music, and see some of the things that the country has to offer. As a tourist what attractions should I make time to see?
Deb Sauder 1/31/2011

Santiago has many attractions, you will take about 10 days to see all (without rushing)
First visit the San Cristobal hill, a huge forest. There you will have a panoramic view of the city from a height of 800 meters. Also there is a spectacular cable car. Santaigo has a varied assortemnt of restaurants and bars, and a swinging nightlife...contact me I will show you the best. Executive car or van available for transport (and transfer to and from airport). I look forward to hear from you,Daniel

Dear Deb,
You should definitely go to the Santa Lucia Hill, the Main square, Plaza de Armas, la Moneda (presidential palace), Bellas Artes Museum (excellent place to spend an hour if you like art & a nice coffee), Bellavista, on the providencia side, the San Cristobal Hill, but try to take the funicular, being that is a very nice ride up. You can also go to Los Dominicos for souveneir shopping, this is the last station on the subway line 1 (red).
If you just like a nice coffee or juice, maybe a bar for the evening, you can go to Pedro de Valdivia Station, in Providencia, and you'll see a great deal of bars, coffee houses, and restaurants.
Also, there are historical neighborhoods, such as Barriio Paris Londres, Barrio Concha y Toro, and Barrio Yungay, where you can see some impressive architecture from the 1920's. these were the areas where the upper class lived for the first half of the 20th century. In Paris-Londres, there is a house that was used for torture During Pinochet's time, and you have the oldest historical monument in Chile, The San Franciso convent.
Enjoy!

Hello! Thank you for contacting BeastourChile.
If you are coming to Santiago I recomend to visit the Central Market in order to taste the best chilean fresh fish and shell fish we have. This is a popular place where all locals go and tourist too. After that, I recomend during the night to visit some Neighborhood with many atractions for young and adult people in music meaning. People playing at pubs and restaurants, theatre with concert alive. This is about the cultural part of the city.
Apart of the description above, I can say that
Santiago city is the principal administrative, commercial, cultural, financial and governmental organisms of the country, with the exception of the National Congress located in Valparaiso port, at 1 hour and a half in a trip car towards the coast.
Also Santiago is divided in 37 communes, to an average altitude of 1800 feet over sea level. Nowadays it is near 6 million inhabitants, representing 25 % of the total population of the country. In agreement with the above mentioned numbers, Santiago, in addition, is the most inhabited seventh city of Latin America and, according to some estimations, one of 50 metropolitan areas more filled with the world.
Santiago is considered to be the third Latin-American city with better quality of life, after Montevideo in Uruguay and Buenos Aires in Argentina, as well as a global city of “alpha class“, at a height of Amsterdam, Stockholm or Rome. Finally, it is considered to be the best second city to do business in Latin America, and 53ª City with major income of the world, with a GDP (PPA) of US$120.000 million in 2010 and a estimated one of US$160.000 million about 2020.
The most interesting places to visit being in the city are the following ones:

Juan (Private Guide in Santiago) 1/31/2011:
In Santiago go for a City tour arround combined with a tour to wine country 40 min. drive away from the city. Mercado Central would be the place for lunch - from chilean tipical food like Pastel de Choclo to a plentilfull sea food meal or different local fish. Musseums, Plaza de Armas, Government Palace, San Cristobal hill for a 360° view of the city and more. Dont miss our Jazz festival in Feb. at Mapocho river side.
