Bruges is a medieval city, a real treasure of Flanders with a glorious past! Many centuries ago, connected to the sea by means of a natural inlet, BRUGES was a flourishing center of trade and commerce. One of the best known monumental & silent witnesses to this great and rich history is the leaning Belfry Tower (overlooking the market square – and featured in the Movie “In Bruges”), where merchants sold cloth, produced with wool imported from England. When the Burgundians had control, they made BRUGES the cultural capital of their territories. Towards the end of the fifteenth century Bruges went into decline....the trade fled, the people fled and BRUGES became a “ghost town“ for quite some time, until it was rediscovered by visitors from around the world.. .

BRUGES today offers you a unique and sophisticated atmosphere. The historical center of BRUGES has maintained its historic fabric throughout the centuries and therefore has been listed by the UNESCO.

ON THIS TOUR: Meet your own private guide at your hotel (or any other pre-arranged location). BRUGES can easily be walked; everything is within very reasonable walking distance. We see the Beguinage, visit the church of Our Lady with the Madonna by Michelangelo (entrance fee not included), see the old historic St. John's Hospital, Gruuthuse palace, the Dijver Canal, the Fish market, the Belfry Tower, the Burg square, the Town Hall, and the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Your guided walking tour ends on the market square: time to go shopping for Belgian chocolates, waffles or lace and why not sample one of the fine Belgian beers or local specialties?

You private guide will lead you through the streets of Bruges and suggest a trip by boat (weather permitting) on the canals. The guided canal cruise takes +/- 35 minutes (tickets not included). We recommend comfortable walking shoes and light – or no – (heavy) bags. Escorting /driving you back to your hotel is possible when pre-arranged.
