Guilin is well-known as the most picturesque city and the most beautiful scenery city of China. Two beautiful, crystal-clear rivers twist through the city, which is surrounding by high mountains with whimsical, quaint, odd rock formations and many caves.

Guilin was founded in 314 BC, in the Qin Dynasty. It was a little settlement on the Lijiang River. It became very important following the construction of a canal joining the river with another further north, ensuring a transport communication with the Yangzi. The imperial court could thus send food and provisions by water from the Yangzi plains to its armies in the south of China. The city became the provincial capital in the Ming Dynasty, and stayed so until 1914, when the metropolis was carryed to Nanning.

Today, a total population of Guilin is about 1,3 million people.
