The style from the time of the 1900´s, also known as Mucha-style, represents a revolt of artists against academical art and backward art schools. These artists felt a particular need for uniting artistic cration with normal life especially through architecture. The strongest movement in Munich and Belin was called Jugendstill and in Vienna as Secessionstill (from Latin secessere which means to go apart), le by Gustav Klimt. In France it was called Art Nouveau and in London Modern Style. The first Secese revolt was in Munich (1892) and is documented in the artists´magazine Jugend. In Prague, this movement was united with the Manes group which included architects, sculptors, painters, graphic artists. The most famous persons of this circle were Alphone Mucha and Frantisek Kupka, who both lived in Paris too.

  The tour in Prague will show you the most outstanding buildings from the beginning of the 20th century, mainly the Municipal House. Certainly you will enjoy the wonderful interior of a prominent Art Nouveau building dating back to 1912. Inside you will have an opportunity to admire all details of decorations in hall and corridors.

  There are also some representative buildings at the Wenceslas Square, in the New Town and in the National Street. The Paris street is full of Art Nouveau houses with splendid decoration on the facades. At he end of the tour you will be taken to the Mucha Museum, where you will see some posters created for the French actress Sarah Bernhardt and her theatre, many sketches of a famous cycle of "Slavonic Epopee" and the design of the very well known stained glass for the St. Vitus Cathedral of the Prague Castle.
