This town has numerous landmarks and places of interest, but the most attractive of them are Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este. Villa Adriana, also known as the Hadrian’s Villa, is quite a big Roman archeological complex, which represents great interest to the history devotees. The villa was originally built as a retreat for the famous Roman Emperor Hadrian. Due to the fact that he disliked his palace situated on the Palatine Hill, he spent much time in the retreat, and even governed the whole empire from the very same villa.

After Hadrian’s death villa was used by several his successors, but soon it fell into disuse. It is worth noting that most of the statues and marble from the Villa Adriana were removed to the Villa d’Este, where these masterpieces served as a decoration. Villa D’Este is our next destination in this tour. By the way it is listed in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites.

This villa is considered to be a wonderful example of gorgeous Renaissance architecture.
