Information about Gyeongju

Gyeongju is a coastal city situated in South Korea that has cool winters and hot summers. The city itself contains 31 National Treasures and Gyeongju National Museum is home to 16,333 artifacts.

There are four expansive classifications of relics and historical sites. These categorizations are tumuli and their artifacts, Buddhist sites and objects, fortresses and palace sites, and ancient architecture. Primitive remnants including Mumun pottery have been unearthed in central Gyeongju.  The cuisine in this historically enriched city is spicy and salty which is largely representative of the cuisine elsewhere in Gyeongsang region.   The gastronomy does have distinctive flavors according to the area and there are a number of local specialties that are recognized nationwide.  

The most prominent of these is "Gyeongju bread."  There are more than 240 seafood restaurants in Gampo Harbor that provide a selection of dishes prepared with fresh seafood caught in the sea.  Many Silla landmarks are set in Gyeongju National Park.  One is the Royal Tomb Complex.  Another is the Cheomseongdae observatory that is noted to be one of the eldest remaining astronomical observatories in East Asia.  Gyeongju National Museum hosts many important artifacts and nation. 

The Bronze Bell of King Seongdeok the Great attracts a large number of tourists. The bell produces a distinctive sound, about which there is a legend. Cheomseongdae near Gyeongju is the oldest extant astronomical observatory in East Asia.  The Bronze Bell of King Seongdeok the Great draws in a great quantity of tourists. This city is terrific for vacationing.
