Information about Kathmandu

The largest city and capital of Nepal is Kathmandu. The city is at an elevation around 4,600 feet high in a bowl shaped area. Four major mountains surround the city; Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri. Nearly a 12^th of Nepal’s population lives in Kathmandu.

A must-see while visiting Kathmandu is Swayambhu-Monkey Temple. This is one of seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. Once you finish the 350 steps to the top you will see amazing views of the city, ancient carvings and get to mingle with live monkeys who peruse the crowds. This is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country.

There is plenty to keep you busy in Kathmandu. Shivapuri Hiking Trek is a five day tour of the best of Nepal’s rural culture complete with stunning Himalayan vies. Go bungy jumping on the 3^rd highest bungy jump in the world. Go flightseeing and tour the area on a local airplane.
