Information about Enkhuizen
This harbor town in the Netherlands was settled in 1355 as a port town conducting trade with the East Indies, and is today one of the largest marinas in the entire country. Many of the medieval buildings in this small city’s inner neighborhoods are very much still intact and create an enormous attraction for tourism.
A famous open-air museum, Zuiderzeemuseum, is located in Enkhuizen and depicts village life in the area throughout history. There are also two spectacular 15th century churches, St. Pancraskerk (or Zuiderkerk) and St. Gomaruskerk, with its beautiful wooden choir screen, and the mostly still standing 17th century city walls that include the Drommedaris Tower. Visitors also come to the the famous Old Mint, Burghers’ Hall, Town Hall, the old Prison, and Koenpoort, the old city gate.
Tourists also come to bring their children to Sprookjes wonderland, a beautiful theme park located in Enkhuizen.
