In this monastery you will see the most beautiful tombs of king Pedro and his lover Inês de Castro - the story of this love is most tragical in history of Portugal. The Batalha Monastery - a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture - pays testimony to affirmation of Portuguese independence against the powerful Kingdom of Castille.
