With its 185 stations, 12 lines and over 300 kilometers of overall length, Moscow Metro is more than just a transport system. It was created primarily as a symbol of the Soviet supremacy and industrial achievements, thus it always carried a significant image role for the Soviet regime. And once you descend underground you’ll understand why the Moscow Metro is different from any other similar system in the world. Each station carries its individuality, decorated in a distinct style and devoted to different events or symbols.

Moreover, the metro is also the largest bomb shelter in Russia, boasting a developed and sophisticated defensive infrastructure that would protect hundreds of thousands in the event of a direct bomb strike. 

We’ll go underground in the city centre and visit seven most interesting stations, including the first stations that were opened back in 1935 and a new one that was included to the map only last years. You will see how the metro evolved from a small line to the second most heavily used underground transportation system in the world.

As with any place of such scale, there are also many tales surrounding the Moscow Metro, which will certainly sound haunting and fascinating as we travel through its dark cavernous tunnels.
