Belgrade Panorama
Private tour in Belgrade
Languages:
We visit various city quarters, including New Belgrade on the left bank of the Sava River, the luxurious residential area of Dedinje and the picturesque Old town. Between these visits we will pass en route St. Sava Church, Slavija Square, Belgrade Palace, the 'New Court', City hall, the Federal Parliament, Terazije street, the National Theatre, the National Museum, University and more.
A highlight of the tour is our brief visit to the archaeological and historical site of Belgrade Fortress. Situated at Kalemegdan, the remains of the old city's fortifications from the 1st to the 18th centuries overlook a spectacular panoramic view of the Sava and Danube confluence.
Belgrade, The White Town, is a capital and largest city of Serbia & Montenegro, the only part of former Yugoslavia, which kept using the name of the country that got separated in the 1990´s until this year. The city lies at the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers in north central Serbia, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula.
Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
Archeological finds indicate that the site has been inhabited for 7,000 years. Around 600 B.C. the territory of Belgrade was crossed by Thracian-Cimmerian and Scythian tribes, and in the early 3rd century B.C. Celts penetrated into this area. The Celtic Scordisci tribe funded a settlement here named Singidunum. Early in the 1st century, Singidunum was captured by the Romans. For the four centuries following the arrival of the IV Flavin legion in 86 A.D.,the town flourished.
Destroyed 40 times in its 2300-year history, Belgrade has never quite managed to pick up all the pieces and take its place in the European aristocracy. Despite this, the slightly disheveled airs, combined with the city’s indefatigable vibrancy lend Belgrade an unpretentious charm and credibility.
