Hoover Dam is an engineering marvel, harnessing the massive power of the Colorado River. It provides electricity to seven Western States and controls flooding and water distribution for much of the Desert Southwest. Yet long term drought conditions are stressing the water supply to millions of people.

As a retired history and geology teacher I provide a unique, up close and personal view outside and inside Hoover Dam. We explore the engineering masterpiece. . . from the natural extremes of the harsh canyons it rises from, to the stories of the towns and people lost when Lake Mead filled, to the men who died building the great dam. We also look at the parched ecology brought about by multi-year drought, and a look to the future of Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the Colorado River.

Suggested Itinerary:

*Pick up at your Strip/Downtown hotel. Pickup at locations outside the main tourist areas are possible. Please contact me for details.

*Photo Op at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. (15 minutes)

*Drive with commentary through Boulder City.

*Walking tour of Hoover Dam. (1 hour)

*Hoover Dam Power Station Tour and Visitor Center (1 hour).

*Lake Mead Overlook Photo Op (15 minutes)
