The Flanders Fields experience: (full day)
Culture and History tour in Ypres
Tour Price : €250-750 Duration : 8 hours Languages: English, Dutch, French, German
The North sea was the Western boundary of the Western Front during the first World War. From the beaches and the locks at the Port City of Nieuwpoort to the Swiss border over Ypres, the Somme, the Marne and Verdun. Place names like Passchendale, Zonnebeke, Messines and certainly Ypres itself recall bloody battles where tens of thousands lost their lives under unbearable conditions. Monuments, cemeteries, trenches and museums give us a clear view of what happened. The only WWI U.S. cemetery in Belgium at Wareghem is a must for U.S. citizens.
Georges picks you up at your hotel or cruise ship and drives you around the Battlefields, telling the stories of human suffering and deprivation. He proposes a number of possibilities from which to choose. A visit to one or more of the Museums is a must. The tour ends with the moving Last-post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, before returning to your hotel or ship. On request, the tour can be extended to North of France (Vimy – Ridge) to include the Canadian monument.
