 A unique visit to one of the world’s most famous battlefields.

On the 6th of April 2014 Napoleon was banished for the first time to the Island of Elba.

The Allies against Napoleon created a buffer state against France, uniting the Southern and Northern Netherlands once again after 300 years of separation. This new “Kingdom of the Netherlands” was soon to be tested.

Ten months after the exile to Elba, Napoleon escaped and returned to Paris. Louis the XVIII escaped and fled to Ghent. On the 16th of June 1815 Napoleon crossed the border at Mons in modern-day Belgium. The Allies had two armies in the vicinity, a Prussian Army under the command of General Blücher, and a combined British-Netherlands force consisting of British and Hannover veterans who had been hardened in the colonial Battles and Dutch-Belgian soldiers, most of them also veterans having previously been pressed into French Military service during Napoleons rule over the Netherlands. This force was commanded by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.

Napoleon tried to drive a wedge between Wellingtons and Blücher’s armies, but finally, he was defeated at Waterloo.

This tour brings you to the Headquarters of Wellington and his Staff in the former Bodenghien stagecoach inn, dating back to 1705 and which houses the Wellington Museum in the centre of Waterloo.    

Next we go to the Lion’s Hamlet where we visitLion's Mound, the new Memorial 1815 Museum, the 360° painted Panorama of the Battle and finally the  

Hougoumont farm, where fears fighting took place between British and French forces and which is now a British war Monument.
