Holland is often nicknamed as the land of windmills, and with this private tour in Amsterdam and its surrounding I will show you why exactly this is so. Zaanstreek, the area just north of the capital used to be the main industrial center in the entire Europe before the industrial revolution, as it housed thousands of windmills that were used for a broad range of applications. In total, there were about 10,000 windmills scattered across the country and used for things like land drainage, wood cutting, grain mill and so on. And we’ll be able to see a part of this former industrial center and see how things used to be made a while ago.

Our destination is the windmill complex located not far from Amsterdam, which houses some of the most well preserved wooden windmills, some of which were constructed over 200 years ago. You’ll be able to enter some of them, and see how the power of wind was used in industrial production centuries before the green energy initiatives we are facing today. Not to mention that the windmill area provides a great opportunity for making landscape photos with distinct symbols of the country in the background.
