Most popular are the National Museum Soares dos Reis, dedicated particularly to the Portuguese artistic movements from the 16th to the 20th century, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Serralves Foundation. There are exquisite concert halls including Coliseu do Porto which is a stunning illustration of the Portuguese ornate arts. Additional fantastic landmarks are São João National Theatre, Rivoli Theatre, Batalha Cinema and Casa da Música. The city has the outstanding Lello Bookshop, one of the world's top bookshops. Porto is home to the most enormous Synagogue in the Iberian Peninsula. A celebrated event is the city’s St. John (São João Festival) that takes place during June.

Another important happening is geared toward students and called Queima das Fitas. This festivity starts in the first Sunday of May and concludes the second Sunday of the month. The week has 12 main events beginning with Monumental Serenata on Sunday and attaining its highest point with the Cortejo Académico on Tuesday. Each night of the week a series of concerts are performed on the Queimódromo positioned next to the city’s park. Porto is a superb choice in vacation destinations.
