Information about Seville

Seville is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe and is the capital city of Andalusia. Every year thousands of tourists come here for admiring the splendid architecture, walking to the legendary places and participate in the worldwide famous festivals.

Local inhabitants believe that the city was founded by the antic hero- Heracles, so his engraved image can be seen in many buildings around the city. In 712 it was conquered by Arabs who ruled here for 5 centuries and their influence is rendered in the beautiful architecture of the city.

The historical part of the city lies on the left side of Guadalquivir River, and it is dominated by Catedral de Santa María de la Sede de Sevilla which was built at the beginning of 15th century. Near it is situated the symbol of Seville – Giralda, which was a minaret and today serves as bell tower for the cathedral, it was built in the 12th century and is a great example of civilization and cultural interchange. Another example of wonderful Arabic architecture is Torre del Oro, that was built in 13th century and is especially magnificent at sunset.

Along the streets and squares of the city you will see numerous orange trees and if you decide to come here in spring when they bloom, you’ll be amazed by their fragrance and beauty.
