Situated on the intersection of different important trading routes, Plovdiv often served as the meeting place for traders both from East and West. Today you can see the marks of those times spread around the modern city.  So join me on a tour to the largest city in southern Bulgaria and its main industrial and historical centre. The central part of the city, which will be our starting point during the excursion, boasts a large number of historical buildings, some of which are built in the traditional style. There are many museums and walking streets to enjoy a stroll, or coffee shops to spend an hour or two relaxing. And among these common and traditional things one can find ancient pearls such as the Roman Amphitheater, which delivers a well-preserved composition that is about two thousand years old. Moreover, if you’re visiting Bulgaria in the summer, you can get a chance to enjoy a classical music concert or opera right in the Amphitheater, which creates a truly unforgettable experience. The old part of Plovdiv that is located nearby also gives you the opportunity to explore numerous art galleries, shops and work studios of traditional art masters, some of whom are using the same methods and techniques that were used by their great-great-grandfathers. 

There’s also an option to visit the Bachkovo monastery, which is only 20 km away from the city. The beauty of surrounding hills and mountains make it a really great place to enjoy Bulgarian culture and learn more about its long Orthodox traditions.
