Day 1: Arrival in Sofia. After meeting you at the airport I will take you to the hotel for a short rest. Then I will take my duties of a private guide in Sofia and will show you the capital of Bulgaria. We’ll visit the most popular landmarks and sites such as the St. Nedelya, St. Sophia and St. Rotonda churches, the Serdica fortress ruins, the Parliament square and many others. A good dinner will be served after the overview tour of the capital.
Day 2: Trip to the Rila Monastery. The UNESCO protected site is a major destination for cultural and religious tourism in Bulgaria. With over 10 centuries of history, the monastery standing on the Rila river is the largest in the country, and is still active to this day.
Day 3: A day in Plovdiv. The second city in Bulgaria by size, Plovdiv has many interesting attractions to offer. The cobbled streets of the Old Town run among the beautiful traditional houses build a century and even two ago. And we certainly won’t miss the Roman Amphitheatre located nearby. Our overnight stay in Plovdiv will include a dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant.
Day 4: Trip to Nessebar. This small patch of land in the Black Sea is considered as one of the oldest settlements in this region, as it was known back from the times of Ancient Greece. Today Nessebar is a small town with a very high concentration of historic buildings and gift shops that attracts thousands of tourists every day.
Day 5: Visiting Varna. The largest city port of Bulgaria and a major sea resort, Varna is a very beautiful city with lots of attractions for different tastes. There are several museums, old churches and even Roman Baths in the city centre, while the walking streets along the coast feature a large number of cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood.
Day 6: Trip to Aladga Monastery. Located near Varna, this monastery is a true wonder since it is dug in the limestone rock very high above the ground. After visiting the monastery we’ll head to the town of Balchik that features the beautiful Romanian Queen Palace and the Botanical Garden.
Day 7: Trip to Veliko Tarnovo. The old capital of Bulgaria, this city located in the central part of the country features picturesque mountainous views and traditional buildings. We’ll also visit the ethnographic village of Arbanassi located nearby.
Day 8: Back to Sofia. Free time in the Bulgarian capital prior to departure.
