The French Concession allows you to do just that, being a unique formation in China and former home to a variety of notorious persons ranging from writers and adventurers to gangsters and politics. The French governed this settlement for nearly a century and it has grown from a little village to one of the most luxurious parts of Shanghai with its own unique architecture and a variety of influences.

First, it were the French colonists who settled here, but very soon this district attracted many other foreigners including settlers from England, USA, Russia and other countries. All these influences have shaped the district into something truly wonderful and very different from what you’ll find in any other part of Shanghai. And even if the French are not in hold of this place for more than half a century, the spirit of this place remains the same because no one wants to change it.

It is the perfect place for relaxing walks, friendly talks in a café or bar, shopping and other activities that don’t need a dynamic and stressful atmosphere. I will take you to some of the most interesting places in the Concession and show the most remarkable buildings in the area.
