The diverse cuisine of Shanghai has a history spanning over centuries and represents an eclectic collection of different regional foods, mixed together into a wholly different result. One of the most important ingredients of Shanghai cuisine is, of course, fish and other types of seafood, which are abundant in this region. One of the most popular traits of local cuisine is the tendency to use alcohol in many dishes, which may use fish or chicken “drunken” with various spirits before being cooked or even served raw.

Sugar is another common ingredient that is widely used in traditional Chinese cuisine, often combined with soy souse to create a unique flavor.  All of the local dishes will be very interesting to a tourist who is fascinated with new recipes and even wants to try cooking something on his own. That’s why we will first visit some of the most important markets in Shanghai, including the wet market and various foods streets in different parts of the city, before visiting a traditional tea house.

After enjoying our tea ceremony we can visit one of the many traditional restaurants serving Shanghai cuisine or try to prepare something on our own, using the ingredients that we could buy on the markets beforehand.
