Culture and History tour in Hvar
Tour Price : €800 Duration : 5-6 hours Languages: English, Italian, Croatian
A unique fusion of luxurious Mediterranean nature, rich cultural and historical heritage, and mundane, tourist present...
Voted one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world and praised by renowned international publications, the island of Hvar, on Croatia's Mediterranean coast, has been known for the healing qualities of its pure air and crystal clear sea since ancient Greek times. In the heart of Europe, Hvar's uniquely sunny micro-climate, unspoiled landscape, and rich cultural heritage made it one of the first tourist resorts in the Adriatic. Whispered to be the new St. Tropes, Hvar has climbed its way to international recognition without effort. Effortlessly ranked as Croatia’s trendiest summer destination, Hvar became an ultimate must-be spot on a travel map for demanding international travelers looking for an authentic Mediterranean experience scented with glamour.
Our first thing is the visit to Hvar city... Venetian small alleys made of stone like the houses that surround them, water wells and hidden streets are the treasure of the town... the view from the city fortress its magic...
Continuing on the old road that goes through small island villages and lavender fields… reaching the oldest town on the island – Stari Grad (Old Town), with UNESCO, protected site: Stari Grad Plain. Stari Grad Plain on the island is a cultural landscape that has remained intact since it was first colonized by Ionian Greeks from Paros in the 4th century BC. The original agricultural activity of this fertile plain, mainly centering on grapes and olives, has been maintained since Greek times to the present. The landscape features ancient stone walls and trims, or small stone shelters, and bears testimony to the ancient geometrical system of land division used by the ancient Greeks, the chora which has remained virtually intact over 24 centuries.
Vrboska is our stop later on… Founded in the 15th century as a fishing harbor, known for its fortress Church of St. Mary (Sv. Marija), built as a refuge for its inhabitants during the 16th century...
Next, we'll move to the village of Jelsa where we can have a private wine-tasting in a local winery. Here you'll get the opportunity to have a look over the production section of the winery, where it's also situated the wine tastings in the wine cellar.
