Nicosia is the largest city of the Republic Cyprus, and the only remaining divided capital in the world. (The northern section of the city is the disputed independent Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.) Nicosia has been the financial center of the island of Cypress since Roman and Byzantine times, and is presently ranked as one of the richest cities in the world.
