This revolution has become one of the main important events of the Cold War, which showed that the USSR was ready to support the Warsaw Pact by means of its military forces. In spite of the initial success, the revolt was soon suppressed by the Soviet troops. As a result of the Hungarian Revolution more than 700 Soviet soldiers and approximately 2500 Hungarians were killed, and over 200000 Hungarians became refugees.
