Budapest is often visited by the Jews, or people who admire Jewish culture, because Budapest is one of the largest centers of Jewish history and culture in Europe. According to the statistics approximately 90000 Jews live there. We will start our tour from the St. Stephen's Basilica. Frankly speaking, it is a great place to explore.

This park is mostly known for its Holocaust Memorial dedicated to the legendary figure – Raoul Wallenberg. This man has managed to save approximately 100 000 of Jews from the Nazis and Hungarian Fascists. During the World War II out of 800000 of Jews, who lived in Hungary, only 200 000 were saved, and most of them had to thank namely Raoul Wallenberg for that. We will continue our guided tour in Budapest by proceeding to the embankment of the Danube River, from where we would have an opportunity to take a look at the new monument in the city – the Shoes on the Danube Promenade. It is a well-known memorial, which honors hundreds of Jews, who were killed by the Nazis and fascists.

According to the historians, the Jews had to take off their shoes and stand on the edge of the water, where they were shot and fell into the river. The monument actually depicts those shoes they have left behind them.
