K2 Base Camp and Pastore Peak 6120m Climbing & Godogoro La Trek

Adventure tour in Islamabad, Skardu, Hunza

Tour Price : $4500 Duration : 20 days Languages: English

K2 Base and Pastore Peak and Climb above 6000m Peaks

"The world’s greatest museum of shape and form" is how Italian mountaineer and author Fosco Maraini described Concordia in his book Karakoram. In this unique place, six peaks over 7,925 meters rise to touch the heavens, including K2 (8,611 m), the second-highest mountain on earth.

After visiting Islamabad, we fly to Skardu and then drive to the trailhead. Here, we meet our colorful expedition porters—sturdy mountain men who will accompany us on the journey. As we trek toward this other-worldly destination, we enter a remarkable wilderness of ice, rock, and sky.

By the time we reach Paiju Camp at the foot of the Baltoro Glacier, we begin to feel the pulse of creation. The ice melts, the rocks roll, and the glacier creaks and groans, rearranging its icy rivers.

When we reach Concordia, we are rewarded with the most incredible mountain views in the world. We are virtually surrounded by K2, Broad Peak (8,051 m), Gasherbrum IV (7,925 m), and the razor-edged Mitre Peak.

Our return trek follows the Gondogoro La (5,600 m), a challenging hike that skirts the Gondogoro Glacier. We descend toward the lush, green irrigated fields of the Hushe Valley.

This exciting and challenging trek is designed for hikers with previous high-altitude mountain trekking experience.

Day 1 — Arrival in Pakistan
Welcome to Pakistan! Most international flights land in the morning at Islamabad International Airport. Our representative will greet you upon arrival and transfer you to your hotel.

You’ll have the day to rest and recover from your journey. Later, we’ll hold a group briefing about the Pastore Peak, K2 & Gondogoro La trek.

If time permits, we may explore Islamabad — a modern city, purpose-built in 1961 as Pakistan’s capital.

Day 2 – Fly to Skardu
Today you’ll travel to Islamabad International Airport for a spectacular 45-minute flight (weather permitting) to Skardu, the capital of Baltistan. The flight offers stunning views of the Himalayas and Karakoram, including the world’s 9th highest peak, Nanga Parbat (8,126 m). If the weather is clear, you may also catch a glimpse of K2 and Gondogoro Pass.

After arrival, check in to the hotel. The rest of the day will be spent exploring the local bazaar, historical forts, scenic lakes, or visiting ancient rock inscriptions, such as the 8th-century Manthal Buddha Rock, showing traces of early Buddhist pilgrims before the arrival of Islam.

Day 3 – Rest Day in Skardu
Skardu, the capital of the ancient Baltistan Kingdom, offers plenty to see and explore. It’s the gateway to renowned treks and climbing expeditions, including Pastore Peak, K2, and Gondogoro La.

In the morning, hike up to the Kharpocho Fort (built in the early 1700s), which overlooks the town and provides stunning views of the Indus River — a perfect spot for sunrise or sunset photography (can be arranged upon request).

You may also visit the nearby Organic Village, where crops are grown naturally. The afternoon is free — you can take an optional jeep tour to Satpara Lake or wander through the local bazaar.

Note: If the road between Askoli and Johla is closed, today you will travel to Askoli for an overnight stay.

Day 4 – Skardu to Jhola via Askoli
Today we drive along the mighty Indus, then follow the Shigar and Braldu Rivers deep into the Shigar Valley, heading towards Askoli — the last village before entering the heart of the Karakoram.

After arriving in Askoli, we’ll meet our expedition porters. The village, perched above the roaring Braldu River, is a single street of wooden houses surrounded by fields of corn, potatoes, and apricot groves.

Following a short break, we begin trekking through the narrow lanes and fields of Askoli. As this is the last settlement on the route to Pastore Peak and Concordia, it offers a glimpse into the resilient lifestyle of the Balti people.

We continue towards the Biafo Glacier, where we get our first taste of moraine walking. After crossing the glacier’s snout, we descend to Korofong, a lush riverside spot beside the Braldu.

The trek continues to Jhola campsite, crossing a side valley and the fast-flowing Braldu River via a bridge. The scenery is dramatic, with distant views of Bakhor Das (5,809 m) and the sharp spires of Paiju Peak.

We reach Jhola Camp by late afternoon. You can relax by the river or go for a short acclimatization walk. On sunny days, don’t forget sunscreen and stay hydrated.

Overnight at Jhola Camp.

Day 5 – Jhola to Paiju
Today marks the first day of your Pastore Peak, K2, and Gondogoro La trek. After organizing equipment and supplies, our porters will load up for the journey ahead to Paiju.

The trail follows the Braldu River for a while before climbing to higher ground, offering stunning views of the majestic Paiju Peak. Along the way, you’ll need to cross a couple of streams. Depending on the melting glaciers above, you may need to ford these streams (sports sandals or old trainers can be helpful).

Paiju is a lush green oasis nestled under the towering shadow of Paiju Peak (6,611 m). From the camp, you’ll get your first breathtaking views of the Baltoro Glacier and the granite peaks of the Trango and Cathedral groups. If the weather is clear, you might even catch a glimpse of K2.

Overnight at Paiju Camp.

Day 6 – Paju to Khorburtse
Today begins with another early start. From your camp at Paiju, it’s about a one-hour walk to the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. After viewing the powerful outpouring of meltwater from the ice, we ascend onto the glacier itself. The glacier here is covered in rubble and rocks, and although we are following a trail often used by expeditions, this section can be challenging. The path undulates as we climb over the glacier’s swells, and it's fascinating to consider that the stones beneath our feet may have come from the summits of Broad Peak, Gasherbrum, or K2.

As we continue, we cross the glacier to its south side and follow a path along the lateral moraine. Heading roughly east, we move sometimes on the moraine, sometimes beside the glacier, until we reach a side valley. Depending on conditions, we may either climb directly onto the glacier or detour into the valley for about 30 minutes to cross the meltwater stream (sandals or old trainers are recommended).

We finally arrive at Khorburtse (3,760 m), where we are rewarded with spectacular views of the Cathedral Towers, the Trango Group, and the striking rock tower of Uli Biaho. It’s a challenging yet rewarding day of trekking over diverse and difficult terrain.

Overnight at Khorburtse Camp.

Day 7 – Khorburtse to Urdukas
Today will be a short day, but it requires some effort as we ascend the undulating moraine, steadily gaining height throughout the day. We continue east alongside the Baltoro Glacier, either along the lateral moraine or sometimes directly on the glacier itself. Along the way, we pass the impressive, ship-like prow of Great Trango and the isolated Nameless Tower, which marks the approach to our next camp at Urdukas.

Urdukas offers breathtaking views of the Trango Towers to the west, and directly opposite, across the valley, the towering rock faces of Cathedral Peak and Lobsang rise like natural fortifications above the glacier. This is truly a magnificent and awe-inspiring location.

We should reach Urdukas in time for a late lunch, and the rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax at camp and enjoy the stunning mountain vistas.

Overnight at Urdukas Camp.

Day 8 – Acclimatization Day at Urdukas
Based on years of experience with the Pastore Peak trek, we have found that taking a rest day at Urdukas is highly beneficial. Spending an additional night here significantly aids the acclimatization process and has proven more effective than resting at Paiju.

Urdukas is the last organized campsite situated on grassy slopes off the main glacier, offering a perfect opportunity for acclimatization. The camp also has facilities for washing and cleaning.

In the morning, you can enjoy a pleasant walk up to higher altitudes behind the camp, where you’ll find beautiful grassy slopes adorned with alpine flowers. This approach—climbing high and sleeping low—is the best way to prepare your body for the higher elevations we will encounter before reaching Pastore Peak.

Night stay at Urdukas Camp.

Day 9 – Urdukas to Goro II
Leaving Urdukas behind, we will follow the moraine edge eastward until we can climb onto the broad back of the glacier. The trail on the Baltoro Glacier passes the Yermanandu Glacier, which flows from Masherbrum. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of Muztagh (7,270m), Masherbrum (7,800m), and Gasherbrum IV at the head of the Baltoro Glacier and Concordia.

At this point, we are well above 4,000 meters, camping on one of the largest ice expanses outside the polar regions, so be prepared for cooler nights. The campsite is situated on the glacier, where ledges have been leveled out for the tents.

Night stay at Goro II camp.

Day 10 – Goro II to Concordia
Today, we trek to Concordia, through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world! Our journey continues along the heaving swells of the Baltoro Glacier as we pass Mustagh Tower (7,284m). Ahead of us, Gasherbrum IV (7,925m) acts as a beacon guiding us forward. At certain points along the trail, we can also catch a glimpse of Gasherbrum II (8,035m), peeking out to the right of Gasherbrum IV.

As we make our way up the glacier, Broad Peak (8,051m) becomes visible, towering above the ridge connecting Marble Peak and Crystal Peak on the left. K2 remains hidden until we reach Concordia, where it finally unveils itself in all its glory. Its full height rises almost 4,000 meters from the valley floor to the summit – a sight that will remain etched in your memory forever.

Concordia is a broad area where glaciers descending from K2 meet those from the Gasherbrum group and Chogolisa. It is undoubtedly one of the most awe-inspiring places on Earth. Here, you stand within 24 kilometers of four eight-thousanders and ten of the world's thirty highest peaks! We set up camp at approximately 4,500 meters on a moraine ridge, surrounded by jagged peaks such as Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak, Chogolisa, Crystal Peak, Marble Peak, Baltoro Kangri, Broad Peak, and K2.

Night stay at Concordia.

Day 11 – Concordia to Broad Peak Base Camp
Today, you will trek to Broad Peak Base Camp. From Concordia, the route takes you through some jumbled ice fins and moraine ridges before gaining the medial moraine of the Godwin Austen Glacier. Broad Peak Base Camp is situated on this moraine, near the base of the climbing route on Broad Peak.

One of the best views of K2 can be seen from Broad Peak Base Camp. Take in the magnificent panorama of the Karakoram mountain range.

Night stay at Broad Peak Base Camp.

Let me know if you'd like any adjustments!

Day 12 – Broad Peak Base Camp to K2 Base Camp and back to Pastore Peak Base Camp
Rise early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over K2 and Broad Peak. After that, embark on a scenic walk up to the mighty K2 Base Camp. For many, visiting the actual base camp used by climbers on K2 is a highlight of the trek.

Along the way, you’ll have the chance to admire the spectacular view of K2 in one direction, and in the other, you’ll see Concordia, framed by Mitre Peak and the massive bulk of Chogolisa, often referred to as 'Broad Peak'.

Afterward, you will return to Pastore Peak Base Camp for the night.

Let me know if you'd like any further adjustments!

Day 13-16 – Climbing Period of Pastore Peak
The climbing period for Pastore Peak begins today. The team will remain at base camp while you focus on the climb. The actual climbing of Pastore Peak can take between 1 to 3 days, but we’ve allocated four days to ensure flexibility.

The success of the climb will depend on your climbing experience, physical strength, and prevailing weather conditions. Our experienced high-altitude climbers will fix the ropes and set up the necessary camps along the route.

Enjoy the adventure as you work toward reaching the summit of Pastore Peak!

Let me know if you need any changes!

Day 17 – Base Camp to Ali Camp
After a successful climb of Pastore Peak, you’ll leave the base camp and follow a less-travelled route along the Upper Baltoro. This route follows one of the glaciers from Chogolisa that feeds the vast Concordia glacial junction. From Concordia, you’ll scramble over several moraine ridges until you reach the Vigne Glacier, which is flatter and has fewer crevasses.

After trekking for 5–7 hours, you’ll arrive at the confluence of the Vigne Glacier and the West Vigne Glacier, where the Gondogoro La passes. Here, you’ll set up camp at Ali Camp (4,800m), located on the moraine beside the glacier junction.

Typically, you’ll reach Ali Camp by mid-day or early afternoon. Once settled in, your trip leader will conduct a skills session, teaching the basics of using a jumar for safety when moving on fixed lines.

Night stay at Ali Camp.

Day 18 – Ali Camp to Khuspang
Today starts with an early climb, likely around 2 a.m., as you prepare to ascend Gondogoro La. This early start helps minimize the risk of rockfall on the descent down the Hushe side of the pass. After a hearty breakfast in the dining tent, you’ll check your gear—crampons, harnesses—and then roped together, you’ll begin your trek on the West Vigne Glacier.

The early hours will see you walking under the star-filled sky, illuminated only by the light from your head torches. This part of the trek is tough, but the breathtaking views from the summit of Gondogoro Pass make it all worthwhile. From the top, you'll have a view of four 8,000-meter peaks in one direction, and in the opposite, you’ll look down into Hushe Valley and Laila Peak.

The route up to the pass might require roping up to cross the glacier, depending on snow conditions. There are several fixed rope sections you can use for safety, and if conditions are better, you may reach the top in around 4-5 hours. Once at the summit, you’ll be treated to a magnificent view, including K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II.

The descent on the Hushe side is tricky, with a sustained slope of about 50 degrees on snow, followed by loose scree. But once you arrive at Khuspang, the green oasis is a perfect place to relax and reflect on the day’s accomplishments.

A rescue team is stationed at Ali Camp to assist with crossing Gondogoro Pass safely, a service which has been running successfully for several years. The cost of the service is included in your package.

Important Note: The crossing of Gondogoro La is dependent on good weather and conditions. If it is not safe to cross, the group will return to Askole via the Baltoro Glacier.

Our itinerary is designed to maximize your chances of safely crossing the pass by ensuring proper acclimatization and having buffer days in case of delays or bad weather.

Day 19 – Spare Trek Day in Case of Delays
This day is set aside as a spare day in case of any delays, particularly related to weather conditions. Since Gondogoro La is a challenging pass to cross and weather can be unpredictable, having an extra day provides flexibility and ensures your safety.

If bad weather or any unforeseen circumstances prevent the group from crossing Gondogoro La on Day 18, this extra day will give us another opportunity to attempt the pass. This buffer also helps account for other potential delays during the trek, ensuring the schedule remains on track.

Day 20: Khuspang to Siacho

After a few minutes of easy walking, you'll reach the glacier. From there, carefully cross the moraine and ice, continuing across the glacier until you reach the campsite at Dalsangpa, which means "field of flowers." Here, you'll be treated to a breathtaking view of Masherbrum and the glacier cascading down from Masherbrum Pass.

The walk to Shaicho is beautiful as you pass yak pastures and encounter the first trees since Paiju. Shaicho is a small village located at a lower altitude, where the landscape becomes greener and more lush. The trees here grow taller as you continue your descent down the moraine to the valley floor.

Your journey ends at the Siacho campsite (3,350m), a sandy area with sparse grasses by the river, located at the junction of the Gondogoro and Charakusa valleys. This marks your first night in nearly a week where you can breathe oxygen-rich air below 4,000 meters. The sound of running water will provide a soothing backdrop as you rest.

Day 21: Siacho to Hushe Valley & Drive to Skardu

Today is the final walking day of the Pastore Peak trek, with an easy walk to Hushe village. Hushe is a sizable village with a maze of alleys and buildings. The traditional houses here are built from rounded river stones, typically two stories high. The lower floor is for animals, while the upper floor is for people. Hushe also features modern houses, a shop, a school, a hotel, and a trekkers' campsite.

Our vehicles will be waiting, so we'll set off early for the drive back through the lush Khaplu Valley. The journey will be faster and smoother on a paved road, following the Indus River into Skardu. Upon arrival in Skardu, we'll check into our hotel, where you'll have time to enjoy a welcome shower and freshen up before dinner. Tonight, you'll sleep in the comfort of a real bed.

Day 22: Fly Back to Islamabad

If the weather permits, we'll take a flight back to Islamabad. Skardu Airport is just 40 minutes from the hotel along a scenic road lined with poplar trees. The flight out of the valley is thrilling, offering a view of Nanga Parbat before we turn south towards Islamabad.

Arriving in the capital after a time in the mountains can feel strange, especially adjusting to the hustle and bustle, and the busy traffic. A private bus will be waiting at the airport to take us to the group hotel. After settling in, we’ll have lunch, unless there are unexpected flight delays.

The rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing or relaxation at the hotel. Your guide will offer suggestions for things to do. Shopping for handmade Iranian and Afghan rugs is a popular option.

In the evening, we’ll gather for a celebratory meal at the hotel or a nearby restaurant.

In case of flight cancellation, we will drive down the Karakoram Highway and arrive in Chillas by late afternoon.

Day 23: Contingency Day in Case of Delays – Islamabad

If we were unable to fly and drove down the Karakoram Highway, we will arrive in Islamabad by late afternoon. However, if the flight went smoothly the previous day, today will be a day to explore Islamabad. In the evening, we will come together for a final group meal.

Skardu Airport is weather-dependent, meaning flights only operate if visibility is good for the pilot to land safely. While the weather in the Karakoram is generally clear, local conditions can occasionally bring clouds and rain. If flying isn't possible, we will travel by road along the stunning Karakoram Highway. The drive down the Indus River to Islamabad takes two days, so this contingency day is built in to accommodate that.

If we’ve already flown into Islamabad, today will be another day for sightseeing. Your guide will provide recommendations for things to do in the capital.

Day 24: Departure Day - Fly Back Home

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Islamabad International Airport for your flight back home. You will leave Pakistan with unforgettable memories from your climbing and trekking adventure at Pastore Peak.

End of Trip.
