The KSAR REGION: Day Trip from Djerba (Classic)

Duration: approximately 8:00-18:00

A full day tour from Djerba into the Ksar Region & Berber South.

We depart from Djerba via the 6.7 km Phoenician causeway. We make a brief stop in the center of Tataouine, to buy our picnic supplies in the central market and visit a patisserie where “horn of the gazelle” pastries are made - a local specialty.

We continue to the most splendid ksar in the region, Ksar Ouled Soltane – in excellent condition and which dates back to the 17th century. It once had over 300 ghorfas, 5 storeys in height (only 4 storeys exist today). In excellent condition, it was also shooting location for the Star Wars movies.

Next is the ancient hilltop village of Chenini, one of the few mountain villages where Berber is still spoken. Some time to explore this stunning village, with its ancient mosques, rock-cut homes and underground olive oil presses - spread across the saddle between two hills with splendid views in all directions.

Our final stop is Ksar Haddada - the most famous ksar of the south, and an important filming location for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace),

Return to Djerba via the ferry at Ajim.
