Tour: UNESCO towns Split (Diocletian's palace) and 3000y/o Trogir and archaeological site Salona

The area of Split and surrounding little towns is a real treasure for anyone who loves the mix of unique nature and historical attractions. Nearly every settlement in the region is protected by UNESCO, and that’s certainly a clear identification of how interesting exploring these places should be for any visitor. This tour will focus on two major UNESCO sites of the region: the city of Split itself and the town of Trogir, located in less than 30 kilometers from Split.

Our tour will start with Trogir right after meeting in any specified location in Split. Right after the meeting will drive to Trogir, which won’t take us more than half an hour assuming the distance.

Trogir may seem small at first but its history is really impressive. Established by the Greek more than 2,000 years ago, Trogir was continuously inhabited throughout the centuries and its development has seen different stages at different times. That’s why the historical part of this town, surrounded by impressive walls, houses numerous buildings of different styles and from different epochs. You will encounter bright examples of Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture along the narrow streets of Trogir.

After exploring the town for a couple of hours we’ll enter one of local restaurants that offer both traditional Dalmatian dishes and international foods. Once we finish the lunch there will be some free time, after which we’ll head over to Salona and Split.

Salona was initially established by the Greek as a marketplace. But after being taken over by the Romans it became the capital of the Dalmatia province. Its importance back then can still be felt now, because Salona is considered as one of the most important archeological sites in Europe after Rome in what concerns the Early Christian period of the Empire. We’ll spend some time at this site before continuing our tour in the center of Split, which also delivers a large number of important historic and cultural attractions.
