Information about Split
The city of Split is one of the oldest in Croatia and occupies a peninsula located along the east coast of the Adriatic Sea. Low rolling hills provide a landward backdrop for the city and its surrounding seaside towns with a pleasant Mediterranean climate providing plenty of sunny days for enjoying the beautiful scenery.
The busy seaport of Split attracts cruise ships and offers ferry transport to nearby islands like Vis and Hvar. During the summer months Split is alive with music and dance festivals, attracting crowds of fun-loving European visitors. The city is still centered mainly around its original establishment, the famous 4th century Diocletian Palace, which is remarkably preserved.
The breathtaking waterfront area features lovely, pristine beaches and main, pedestrians-only avenue through Split is the Marmontova, which is lined with shops and cafes. The Mestrovic Gallery attracts many visitors, as do the Prokurative and the Cathedral of Domnius with the city’s iconic bell.
